Future Stars – Rock Around the Block

We are so excited to introduce the Future Stars Program for our 6-12 year old performers! This program aims to provide a “next step” after our MT Workshops by using published plays and musicals, a larger performance venue, full costumes, and implementing more scenic and technical elements into the production. Tuition for this program is $375. This Fall we are taking it back to the 1950’s with the musical comedy Rock Around the Block!

Auditions: September 16th from 10am-1pm at the YL Spotlight Studio. Auditioners are asked to prepare a song from the show to audition with. Please choose a song from the link below.

Rehearsals: Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4-6pm starting September 20th. Performers will not be called to every rehearsal.

Performances: November 9-12th at the Virginia DeLand Theater at the Yorba Linda Cultural Arts Center.

Show Synopsis: Gracie Stanley has gotten herself into the ultra-sticky jam of a lifetime!  She has pledged to deliver her distant cousin, rock star Ziggy Springer, for the high school Hippity Hop.  To her dismay, Ziggy’s manager doesn’t want his client performing anywhere without pay.  It’s now up to Gracie and her friends to produce a double…  or never show their faces in Louise’s Luncheonette again!  They plot to have a singing soda jerk perform instead.  If it’s dark, maybe no one will be able to tell that it’s really not Ziggy!  With the scornful Muffin Mansfield keeping her eyes on Gracie’s every move, it won’t be easy to pull this one off.  Loaded with the feel of the era and a fantastic score, you’ll see why we call them the Nifty Fifties!
